In Celebration of 30 years of Hong Kong Marine Parks
Sponsored by The Swire Group Charitable Trust (The Swire Trust), the Hong Kong Maritime Museum (HKMM) will present the “Family Fun Day x Marine Parks 30th Anniversary Roving Exhibition” on 30 August 2026 to raise awareness on marine conservation and preserve Hong Kong’s diverse marine biodiversity. Admission for members of the public is free.
Supporting “Hong Kong Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan” 2035, the event will feature a lively lineup of educational and family-friendly activities on marine science and conservation, including interactive exhibition, marine conservation booths, photo spots, body painting experience, guided tours, talks, workshops, and children’s worksheets.
HKMM is delighted to collaborate with Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), multiple NGOs and university partners, including Chinese University of Hong Kong, City University of Hong Kong, Ho Koon Nature Education Cum Astronomical Centre (sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen), Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, The Nature Conservancy Hong Kong, University of Hong Kong, WWF Hong Kong (arranged in alphabetical order). These partnerships reflect a shared commitment to create joyful, meaningful experiences that deepen public understanding of marine biodiversity and inspire action for environmental conservation.
This year also marks the 30th Anniversary of the Marine Parks in Hong Kong. In celebration, AFCD will host a special themed exhibition at the event showcasing three decades of marine conservation. Through engaging displays and learning materials, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of local marine wildlife and the importance of protecting marine ecosystems. Attendees can explore educational content on responsible marine-life appreciation, learn practical conservation actions they can take, enjoy picture-perfect photo spots, and experience interactive family-friendly exhibits, as well as a variety of local marine-life models accompanied by fascinating facts. Open to nature enthusiasts, families, and anyone eager to discover Hong Kong’s marine heritage, the exhibition offers a unique opportunity to connect with the underwater home we all share.
HKMM has prepared a series of marine science talks through collaboration with partners to enrich the visitor experience. Highlights include “From Fishes to Corals: Restoring Hong Kong’s Marine Biodiversity” organized by the City University of Hong Kong, and “Marine Parks 30 Years – From Classroom to the Sea: Shaping a Blue Future through Public Engagement and Citizen Science” organized by AFCD. Join marine wildlife and conservation experts for engaging sessions for all ages—discover fascinating marine creatures, learn how public engagement, science, and innovation can respond to pressing global environmental challenges, and explore the vital connection between people and the ocean.
HKMM, Ho Koon Nature Education Cum Astronomical Centre (sponsored by Sik Sik Yuen), and AFCD will also host several sessions of hands-on marine conservation workshops to help the public better understand and protect Hong Kong’s ocean ecosystems. One of the highlights is the “Plankton Workshop in the Victoria Harbour”, where participants can discover the hidden world of plankton through engaging, family-friendly activities. They will learn how plankton supports the marine food web and observe these tiny but remarkable organisms up close. In addition, another workshop is the “Cetacean-themed Crafting Workshop”, where participants will create ocean-inspired artworks while learning why conservation matters for Chinese White Dolphins and for the wider marine environment. Both workshops require online pre-registration.
